I visited Taira around 1:00 PM on a Sunday, and the place was nearly packed. It’s one of those spots I find myself craving every now and then. They serve a unique style of "Mazemen" (mixed noodles) that’s a bit different from your typical Soupless Dan Dan Noodles. Although they have a variety of options on the menu, I usually stick with their classic dish. On this visit, I ordered: Umami-Spicy Mazemen: ¥800 This dish comes with a complimentary serving of "ato-meshi" (finely portioned rice for the leftover sauce), which they’ll bring out if you just ask for it. The noodles have a nice thickness to them, so you'll want to give them a thorough mix. The spice level is just right—the "deliciousness" hits you first, followed by a pleasant tingling heat that is characteristic of this shop. To finish it off, I tossed in the rice and mixed it all together for a perfect final bite. It’s an intriguing bowl of noodles that always keeps me coming back.
