Michelin Guide rating

Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking.
Simple standard.

As the name suggests, the owner is a die-hard fan of the American rock band. But in stark contrast with the band’s postmodern sound, the room feels warm and homely thanks to the generous use of wood. On the menu, home-style MSG-free cooking from Hunan and Jiangzhe takes centre stage... More info

Talking Heads is a restaurant recommended by Bib Gourmand for its MSG-free home-cook style Taiwanese cuisine. While the English name of the restaurant appears to be same for over 30 years, it has a new Chinese name which no longer translates to “Talking Heads” starting from 2019 at its newest location. The main dining room is bright and clean. However, there is only one server responsible for everything that goes on outside the kitchen, including taking orders, cleaning tables, preparing drinks, cashier duty, etc.; understaffed is an understatement. It should not be hard to imagine the rather unwelcoming serving attitude. Although food does not taste bad and is not expensive, there is no wow factor. The signature dishes are not impressive at all; while the Hunan Egg (NT 320; NT 470/medium) is dry and rough, the Wuxi Ribs (NT 520/small; NT 780/medium; NT 1,100/large) are tough, chewy and super sour. Payment by cash only is not uncommon, but it is strange not to have a bill or receipt available for the customer to check. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: NT$800–1,000 Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2
