Dear Chris, I am sorry you feel so strongly about the size and price of our coffee that you …Dear Chris, I am sorry you feel so strongly about the size and price of our coffee that you feel it necessary to leave us a one star review on Google which I’m sure you are aware, is very damaging to a business, especially a small business like us who have to work extremely hard to make ends meet. Let me explain a few things to you… Firstly with regards to sizing, we use standard specialty coffee sizing which is a global standard amongst speciality coffee shops who work at our level or are members of the SCA Speciality Coffee Association. These sizes have been developed over years of research by the industry and are all based on ratios. It is these ratios that bring out the best flavours in high grade coffee. We did not invent these ratios, we just learned and adopted them into our philosophy to offer the highest quality produce we can. We do not serve the same size offering as high street chains or low quality cafes so our sizing will not change. As for pricing… We are a tiny independent specialty coffee shop with no investors or shareholders to inject cash into our business. We work extremely hard to serve the highest quality coffee possible and not just in Chiswick but in the UK. We only source and work with the highest quality coffee beans which score at least 85 points or above (unlike 99.9% of any other coffee shop in Chiswick or the UK). We also roast these beans ourselves and package them ourselves. We are also a proud member of the London Living Wage organisation which 99.9% of other coffee shops are not as they do not prioritise or value the wellbeing and satisfaction of their staff in the same way we do. We do not have the purchasing power of Starbucks or Cafe Nero to force our suppliers to reduce their pricing. This year alone our electricity bill has increased by 300% yes 300%! Imaging how our customers would feel or walk away if we increased our prices by 300%??? We do everything we can to the best of our ability and I am truly sorry it does not reach your standards but it is the best we can do. Lastly, as for staff attitude, I personally vouch for every single member of staff we have at the shop. They work extremely hard and are in general excellent with customers. If you happened to come in either during or just after an extremely busy day it is possible they may have been low on energy and not as welcoming as they could be. It is possible but then they would have been exhausted and anyone can have an off day or an off moment. I am sorry your drink is not bigger and cheaper but it never will be either of those things at our shop so maybe we are just not the right place for you. At the end of the day, even though we try extremely hard we cannot satisfy everyone but we should not be punished for this if we did not meet your expectations. We can’t undo every one star review we receive but we can try to educate our customers and potential customers as much as possible. More
