Tapabento owner Isabel told me Alma means soul in Portuguese.  During our Portugal trip we happened to dine at the two Michelin start restaurant Alma, and I think they need to take a trip to Tapabento to see what real soul feels like.  From the Foix Gras toast, to the risotto and roasted duck all was simply amazing in taste and presentation.  The ambiance was lively and when looking at the faces of other patrons there was real feeling of joy in the room.  Our waiter who has been like most of the employees working at Tapabento for many years exuded his love for working with Isabel.  She has created the necessary family feel for the employees that carries over into all aspects of your meal.  If you are so fortunate to dine at Tapabento please indulge yourself with the peanut foam dessert.  One of my top ten lifetime desserts.   Soul is easily said yet very difficult to create. Tapabento you have succeeded.

The place has a wonderful atmosphere. You could easily become a regular here because the owner is so attentive; she makes it feel like she's hosting a dinner party. Great wine selection. Better food.

Our favorite meal in Porto! Aspects of the menu are drawn from influences of flavors around the world - a making for incredibly tasty dishes. Typically, I am weary of "fusion"foods, but Tapabento does it right. The friendly staff was able to accommodate our family of 6 for outdoor seating right as they opened for dinner. The restaurant quickly became busy, so reservations are recommended if possible. We've eaten our fair share of seafood dishes on this trip, and this place has been the best for it by far. We found them to be quite flavorful, well-balanced, and fresh. The fish and seafood cataplana had us drinking up the broth. The clams and Thai mussels were great as well. However, the winner at our table was the Camarao Alho, wild shrimp sautéed in an incredible sauce that we soaked up in bread. To complete our meal, the Peanut foam dessert was perfect. Although it was one of our pricier meals in the city, it was well-worth it.
