A very pleasant experience. The chef-owner is cheerful and likes to talk to his customers in (very) casual Japanese manner, which may irk some Japanese customers but I am cool with it. The chawan mushi, tempura, sashimi and simmered dishes were great. We were also served at least 10 sushi pieces. I did not count nor take pictures of the sushi because they were handed to me by hand and I was too excited to try them. Personal favorites were the cherry trout, squid with salt and citrus, and seared beltfish. The rest were amazing as well. The bill came out at about 17k JPY per person, which is comparable to some higher end sushi establishments in Tokyo but for the same quantity and quality, it will probably cost 1.5-2x in Tokyo. All I can say is wow! This place offers a stunning omakase experience, challenging you with (at least to a western palate) exotic ingredients and mastergully crafted flavour combinations This is all a one-man operation by Tappan (the owner)- he’s as charming as he’s highly knowledgeable, and as charming as he’s good in the kitchen, making the experience in equal parts tasty, educational and entertaining If you’re in Ito, and up for a delightful meal, make sure to visit Tappan Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ¥10,000+
