Down home southern style to a T. This is ultra traditional southern cuisine served in an elegant, old home, with restored antique furnishings. The ambiance is lovely, very "Old South." If that's not your thing, you probably won't like it. Overall, I think the atmosphere was very nice and warm and the service impeccable, but the food was "southern living" in every possible way. I'm not much for that style of cuisine, so I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here if left to my own devices, but my family decided to dine here, so when in Rome, do as the Romans do... Anyway, the food was good, very hearty and rich, and more than likely, artery-clogging in a way that I can't adequately describe here. Like I said, Southern-style cooking isn't really my thing (even though my family lives here and I'm back and forth a lot), but I managed to find a fish entree that suited me well enough. My catfish was cooked nicely, but the mashed potatoes (minus any gravy) were thick and creamy, a little too creamy. The biscuits were good- typical Southern-style biscuits made with love and completely from scratch. They were, admittedly, down home goodness. I filled up on them, so shame on me. I didn't care for the green beans on the side. They seemed greasy, like they had been swathed in some type oil or bacon fat, even though I requested that they not be. I wound discarding them on the side of my plate. The cobbler was the best, a perfect ending to a traditional Southern meal, but I don't want to know how many fat grams were in that dish. It was sweet and savory, like traditional cobbler should be. Our server was quite attentive to our table, very polite, with excellent manners. It sort of felt like we were having a five course meal in someone's elegant old mansion and we were being catered to by their private staff. That was interesting. In all, it was a decent meal, but not really something that I would go out of my way for again. The service and ambiance were superior to the food, but that might be because it wasn't the type of cuisine that I personally care for when choosing a restaurant.
