7-31-2023 The Bar Cart (TBC) West Reading, Pennsylvania Keepers: Chris & Kacie Griffith This cleverly conceived and well-designed suds, wine, and cocktail parkour comes alive with each bottle opened, each drink mixer vessel clanged with the stirring spoon, and each patron greeted either by some friends or the hosts of this handsome and intimate five night spot. The entrance, as you breeze through a very posh porch, opens with the bar lounge, followed by a window bayed main room and posterior lobby, then to the powder and rest rooms, stage left, pantry and kitchen, stage right. The organic vibe in short order circulates and the beverage program activates a keen pallet for libation craft. The people, products, and patrons will draw you back regularly for after work drinkies, or a smart segment to an afternoon or evening out. Keepers Chris and Kacie Griffith hale from careers in Finance and Spirit Sales Management, respectively, and opened TBC, a first of its kind in Berks, in July 2021. Chris’ magic is in the mixology arena. My first visit saluted a bangin’ Bourbon Old Fashioned, as featured on the changed weekly bill, which I thoroughly enjoyed for both inclusion and unequivocal execution, complete with (brandy soaked?) cherries. Kacie walks and manages the floor and attends to seated patrons. Each of Chris' and Kacie's aforementioned talents by no means stand-alone rest assured, as I would be absolutely remiss not to mention the synergy created by the host couple, who work in tandem to make this house hum. All liquor, wine, and beer lists are ascribed, to local and regional distilleries and purveyor/ merchant distributors, and include whiskeys, “botanicals”, reposado and other tequilas, liqueurs, plus all of the standard, but elevated, whites. The beer and wine lists serve every pallet and made the introduction to me of a really refreshing Mexican lager, starred alongside an equally intriguing IPA, at my second visit. Full disclosure, I was actually trying to find an interesting meal on my first visit, which happened to coincide with a regularly held pop-up, this time featuring Matt’s Chicken, previously reviewed by me in two parts previously. More TBC pop-ups will continue to invite you to pop in for the remainder of Summer 2023, although they will not feature food exclusively. The examples included a new artist release and a Christmas in July Bingo and Pink Elephant Swap soiree. Check online or take a look at what’s coming as listed on the menus laying on the bar.
