A MICHELIN star: cuisine of great finesse. Worth the step!
Good standard.

This rustic restored barn is the more informal sister to Moor Hall, and the two restaurants share the same ethos, with much of the seasonal produce coming from the five-acre grounds in which they both sit. The airy dining room comes with exposed beams and an open kitchen, while the hedge-enclosed terrace by the lake is magical on a sunny day... More info

For a 1* Michelin restaurant, the midweek deal they do is fantastically good value. Compared with other 1* places I've been like The Angel at Hetton, Rogan and Co. and The White Swan at Fence I'd say it's my favourite. Been about three times in the last year and the last couple of times by train from Liverpool Central (you get off at Town Green and then a 15-20 min walk). Would easily go once a month if we didn't live 50-odd miles away. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Firstly, Google shows Rooms/Service/Location ratings, when my review is about The Barn at Moor Hall RESTAURANT. So take my room rating as being for the food..... I treated my mother for her 84th birthday and we both thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience. Service from Ross was exceptional. Especially his ability to make my mother feel special. There was a younger server who served our main course and his dish explanation was a little rushed and less clear (-1), especially when explaining to an older person. The location is beautiful, and the ambience is perfect. Just enough noise to provide some warmth to the atmosphere, and never too much noise it is intrusive. We felt the wines by the glass were reasonably priced, although the red selection was a little unadventurous (-1). There were only two very very minor markdowns in regard our food; the turbot in my main dish lacked that 'butteryiness' flavor associated with turbot (-3). It was still a nice piece of fish, but lacked the WOW factor. And whilst the cheese selections we made were very good, I think the menu pricing should use the word 'slithers' :O Whilst we didn't want, or need, big chunks of cheese, I did feel the amount provided was edging on embarrassment, even for a fine food restaurant such as this (-1). I would have also like to have been offered some of the house sourdough (Which is EXCELLENT) to accompany the cheese (Of course I could have asked for it, but was quite full by that time). Whilst all the remaining food was excellent, I'd like to point out the potato side dish, which was an unexpected show stopper. Thinly sliced fondant style potato, arranged in four stacks, delicously crispy on the outside, and topped with the most amazing brown butter & hollandaise sauce. DO NOT MISS THESE ! I honestly think the pricing is 'spot on' for the overall dining experience and the auto gratuity of 10% sits well for the quality of service provided. Whilst I live in the USA, when I'm next back in the UK I'd probably try and arrange my schedule so I could eat here again (lunch or dinner). Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5
