We’re visiting Boise for the weekend and staying in the hotel connected to Boise Post, so we were excited to try the rooftop bar, it looks beautiful from a distance. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match the setting. We arrived as a party of four on a Friday evening telling the hostess we just wanted drinks (we had already eaten), not realizing reservations were recommended. The hostess told us it would be a 15‑minute wait for the north balcony which is where we asked to be seated, which was fine. When we asked if we could get a drink at the bar while waiting, the response was unclear, so we walked over to the bar and after standing at the bar for quite a while, the bartender told us he wasn’t allowed to serve us unless we were seated. This seemed odd to us because most restaurants when you have to wait for a table you are invited to the bar to get a drink while you wait even if you have to stand, which was totally fine with us. So then it was weird for us just to be standing by the bar with no drinks so when I asked, where should we go we were told to stand near the hostess stand which also seemed weird because it created crowding for other patrons who were also coming, trying to get a table. We noticed several open seats on the patio, and when one of us asked, the hostess initially said no, but then suddenly was able to find a couch and two chairs for us. Once seated, we saw a group of eight people just standing on the patio visiting with each other with drinks which contradicted the “must be seated to be served” rule we had just been told. We also saw guests walking up and asking others if they could take empty seats, which didn’t align with the reservation or hostess seating. So apparently we could’ve just walked out on the balcony and asked if we could sit in unused chairs? It was very confusing. The atmosphere itself felt inconsistent. Someone walked in with a large dog, and another guest was wearing shorts with a blazer jacket, which added to the overall sense that the space didn’t match the upscale tone suggested by the reservation and seating rules. As hotel guests, we were disappointed by the lack of friendliness and clarity from the staff. The view is undeniably beautiful, but the service and policies made the experience confusing and annoying. Until the reservation system and service approach are smoothed out, I wouldn’t recommend this spot for anyone hoping to stop in spontaneously for a drink or enjoy the rooftop.
