Those of advanced years might remember the scene from American Werewolf in London, where the two chaps walk into the pub, and are greeted with hostile stares and silence. That was the experience of my friend and I , when we walked into The Butler, The I think, Polish female behind the bar, was throughout the evening, surly and unfriendly, however, it was noted that they were far friendlier to what I assume were regulars, and/or friends. So getting the negative out of the way, the other staff I encountered were friendly, polite, welcoming, and the pub itself is a delightfully old fashioned boozer, prices are reasonable, and the open mic event there is also friendly with a high standard of performers. There is also an additional venue space inside, which has great acoustics. The only thing that stops this being a five star review is the unpleasent manner of the aforementioned bar person.
