Hello Lions River Honey Company. at the Country Kitchen. A quick coffee & snapshot stop. We love the chandelier of repurposed silverware! And of course the coffee if a firm favorhite, so much so that the only evidence of it is a photo on the counter ...always delicious if it's Terbodore Coffee Roasters (Howick, South Africa) , another hyper-local & homegrown product. The Country Kitchen – Lions River Situated in picturesque Midlands Meander is The Country Kitchen, R103 MAIN ROAD, Lions River. It isn’t easy to find a Halaal restaurant the Midlands. We were pleasantly surprised with our find. The layout with café tables and chairs is homely with an antique looking cabinet displaying ornaments, yummy pickles, and sauces for sale. It was an extremely hot sticky day. The fan circulated warm air. There was a variety of cool drinks and thirst quenchers. The long drive from Durban had us parched. We opted for a jug of lemon and cucumber flavoured cold water. It’s a traditional homecooked Indian cuisine on offer to stimulate one’s tastebuds. Super tasty meals. Each of us chose something different from the menu. I’m a vegetarian, so it was beans and roti. Nothing makes me happier than beans and roti. Melt in the mouth, homestyle soft buttery roti to accompany the beans curry. Portion size was sufficient for one person. My companions had mutton curry with roti and beef curry with rice. Carrot salad with chillies and vinegar graced our meals. It nostalgically transported us back in time to Saturday’s family lunch. Both my companions raved about their choice of curries. The portions could have been slightly bigger. They make their own bunny buns in a creative shape. The host was attentive. The roti was so soft and tasty that we bought a pack to take home with us. The food was so delicious and the owner/cook of the restaurant was so sweet and served us with a smile. The steak pizza was delicious! Great service and would definitely come back. Definitely recommend!
