We went to the restaurant on the 31st May 2026 At night to celebrate our honeymoon. The restaurant looks lovely. Make you really feel at home. We were givens our menus with only limited drinks of coffee and milkshakes. We had to speak to the waiters about ordering any other drinks like a beer.... there was no menu given for it or prices known. We could have order more if we were given the selection but we were told to just give our waiter what we wanted. We place our order for food which was (vg) spring rolls with sweet chili and soya sauce for R65 and crumbed mushroom with tartar sauce. R65 I had spoken to the waiter beforehand about the quantity of springrolls and was told We would get 6. When we got our starter we we're very disappointed. We got 5 small (vg) springrolls with a few drops of sweet chili and no soya sauce in sight and our springrolls were chicken not (vg) as claimed on the menu. Lucky my wife like spring rolls but what happen if it happens to some who is vegan or vegetarian? My crumbled mushroom were not crumbled, a southern fried chicken coating is not crumbled. With drops of mayo not tartare sauce. For what you order and what you get for the price it's not worth it. Very disappointing. We then order our Mains of the Balti pizza and butter chicken curry with sambals and pompadom. Sambals are more than 1 sambals we got sambal with no seasoning. It was very bland and please check your bowls and it has chip in it. Surprised about the veg that came with it as it wasn't stated your menu. Was also no seasoning Your saving grace was the the curry was nice My pizza was also nice chicken could have been cut maybe finer but was decent. I work as a chef so I know how it feel just making sure you are aware of what you are give to your customers or guest Overall we did enjoy our visit there. We recently dined at The Forest Restaurant and had a mixed experience overall. My husband ordered the steak and calamari platter. Unfortunately, the steak lacked flavor as it didn’t seem to be properly seasoned before plating, and it had a pale appearance rather than that nicely browned, tanned finish you’d expect. I ordered the beef stew, and sadly the meat was very tough, so much so that the knife could barely cut through it. It was also quite dry, which took away from what could have been a comforting dish. That being said, the rest of the food was actually really enjoyable, and you can tell there is potential in the kitchen. With a bit more attention to seasoning and meat preparation, the experience could be significantly improved. Overall, an okay experience with some highlights, but also a few disappointments. The current rating of 4.9 stars is completely undeserved. The food was below par, but the pork chop I had was completely tasteless. I also thought this sounds impossible, but it tasted of the oil it was fried in. The springbok carpaccio was clearly done by someone who had never eaten or seen what a dish like this should be presented like or taste like. Very disappointed. Everything was served with some variation of mayonnaise. Why?? Will be eating my Nik Naks when I get back to my room. ADDITIONAL: The chef came out to see how we liked our meal and thanked us for our feedback. Of course I feel terrible now. Subsequently, Sia, the assistant manager came out and was incredibly sweet and professional. She has offered a reduction in the cost of the meal and assured us that the new chef is working on changing the menu. I have high hopes for this establishment. Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 1
