After a hike at Hogg’s Falls we needed a place to grab a bite. I remember passing this nondescript spot with lots of vehicles in front of it (great marker to choose a restaurant) after turning off Highway 10. So back we went, asked a man in front of the restaurant how the food was, and after getting a ringing endorsement in we went. Off the top if they have air conditioning it was either not working or turned off. So the air was a little close, it was a warm day outside. They did have an oscillating fan going, so we sat on that side of the restaurant. The atmosphere is homey and nostalgic. There was one woman running the front and a cook in the back. Service was good. I ordered a black pudding pie (pub style food) but they were sold out, which I found odd. Then I was told the meat pies were made by local Mennonites, so that made more sense. I then ordered steak and kidney pie, fries and a Greek salad. The pie and fries were quite good, would have skipped the salad. My wife had a fish wrap, which she said was good. The prices were quite reasonable. So if you have realistic expectations this is a good restaurant with decent food at a great price. Nice throwback spot when most restaurants have gone corporate. Small town charm and friendly staff. We would return, the fish and chips and burgers looked great! Excellent breakfast - well executed eggs and protein, some of the best home fries I've had. One detail that most probably won't care about is the toast: served perfectly browned and hot buttered (I've had it treated like an afterthought at other establishments). Also highly recommend the burgers and battered Halibut/Haddock. Serving staff and owner are also very attentive and helpful! You won't be disappointed...This is a top notch little diner.
