Nestled in the heart of Glastonbury, George & Pilgrims is a historic establishment offering classic British cuisine with a medieval twist. The ambiance is cozy and atmospheric, with stained glass windows and stone walls transporting diners back in time. The interior design is rustic and full of character, featuring old furniture and a four-poster bed in one of the rooms. The price range is moderate, with dishes ranging from £10 to £18. The location is convenient, with a large public car park behind the restaurant.
The menu offers a good selection of hearty, tasty food, catering to both meat and fish eaters. The chicken wings and halloumi fries are particularly noteworthy, as are the ribs and chicken dish, although some reviewers have found the portions to be on the small side. For drinks, the mulled cider and cocktails come highly recommended, while the coffee is well-made and served in generous portions. The wine list includes a variety of reds and whites to suit all tastes.
In addition to its culinary offerings, George & Pilgrims has a warm and welcoming staff, making it a great spot for a relaxing drink or bite to eat. The establishment is dog-friendly and has a beer garden for outdoor seating. Live music is not a regular feature, but the pub's unique decor and history make it a must-visit spot for anyone in Glastonbury.
Had really looked forward to a hearty fish and chips in a cosy atmosphere - which it certainly has - and undeterred by the 16.95 price tag. Buy the portion of haddock I received would not have been classified even as a children's portion inmy local chippie... I could have put up with that but it wasn't even nice - oily and crusty and tasted as if it had been cooked 4 hours ago at least. Disappointed and feel as if I've been cheated somehow. The chips were nice though. But for 16.95?
The breakfast options are extremely poor for the price, but sadly it’s the only place open from 7:30am.
