Enjoy perfectly cooked burgers and good beef patties at The Izzy Burger when you happen to be near it. Most visitors find that the staff is gracious here. Terrific service is a strong point that plays a great role for the success of this place. According to the guests' opinions, prices are attractive.
Standing right in front of the cash register - I was basically ignored by counter staff for the first 10 minutes I was standing there.
Not a greeting, a nod, a word - nor “I’ll be with you in a moment” comment. Nothing!
Just counter staff doing their thing, walking by and ignoring their customers standing right in front of them.
Counter staff have no clue about greeting any of their customers - nor thanking them for payment. They do not bother following up with the kitchen to keep waiting customers informed regarding progress of their order.
Staff just ignore customers standing in front of them - and leave us waiting!
Understandably, Izzy Burgers Wynberg is by no means fine dining - they are a takeaway.
But their food does not come cheap either.
Based on their prices and what you spend there for an average family meal - Izzy Burger Wynberg staff needs to brush up on basic customer service skills and - as people AND as well as staff of a business - they need to brush up and learn some basic good manners.
Even though placing my order by telephone ahead of time, and arriving at the agreed time, my order of 3 burgers and chips took 01hr25mins to be completed from the time of my call. I was told telephonically to arrive 25-30 minutes from the time of placing my order.
While waiting an hour for my order, I noticed that the overall food hygiene and handling by kitchen staff is not at all sanitary - especially on the burger assembly line.
I even saw a staff member pour sauce on some chips he had helped himself to from the basket and was eating them by hand - while assembling a burger! More horrific - in today’s world of viruses - he didn’t wash his hands after he had put the chips in his mouth!!
Evidently, there is an absence of management and leadership here, and just a lack of caring from kitchen staff and customer serving staff. A “couldn’t-care-less” attitude prevails from the staff at Izzy Burgers Wynberg.
After finally receiving my order, I arrived home only to find that I didn’t receive the extra side of chips I had ordered - and paid for! By this stage I was done dealing with Izzy Burgers - they’re an amateur burger takeout joint charging professional prices.
And since it is clear that they have no clue what they are doing, I should have known better and checked my order properly before leaving.
Izzy Burgers Wynberg staff will do well crossing the road and learning great customer service from the likes of Aneesas’s Takeaways and Cosy Corner - it’s their friendly excellent customer service that keeps welcoming customers back, which in time turns establishments like Aneesas’s and Cosy Corner into icons of Cape Town, while they continue in business for decades - serving generation after generation with a smile.
Overall, after several visits - it is just a horrible, underwhelming and negative experience visiting Izzy Burger Wynberg.
While reviews may be that Izzy Burgers are tasty - it is nothing special. Since it is the current rage at the moment, there are many, many smash burger places in the Wynberg/Plumstead/Lansdowne area that are their equal and much better than Izzy Burger. Better in all aspects of the experience of buying and enjoying a burger.
Needless to say - I do not recommend Izzy Burger Wynberg and will definitely not be returning.
In these tight economic times, spend your hard earned cash at a more welcoming burger place who is more deserving and appreciative of your patronage - because clearly this lot at Izzy Burgers Wynberg couldn’t care less when you do spend your money with them!
