The Jim opened in South Philly in 2022, taking over the former JC Chinese Restaurant space and turning it into a small neighborhood bar with a Chinese and Korean-inspired food menu. I’ve stopped into The Jim on 8th Street a couple of times after work for happy hour, food, and drinks with friends and locals, and I’d definitely call this place a hidden gem. It’s small inside, probably only around 10–15 seats, but there are also several picnic tables outside, which is perfect when the weather is nice. I actually like the smaller setup because it gives the place more of a laid-back neighborhood bar feel. The food is what keeps me coming back. The Dan Dan Noodles are really solid, the edamame is great, and the steamed Kung Pao dumplings are another favorite. The prices are very reasonable, especially during happy hour, and the food feels like a step above what you’d expect from a small neighborhood bar. Drink-wise, I usually grab a draft IPA, while my girlfriend gets the spicy margarita pretty much every time and loves it. Overall, The Jim is a great little South Philly spot with really good food, solid drinks, a fun local vibe, and a great happy hour. It may be small, but that’s part of the charm. I’d absolutely recommend it and will definitely keep coming back.
