We're just back from a stay in this hotel where we stayed two nights for our 38th wedding anniversary. It was very lack lustre and disappointing. It was expensive but for something special we don't mind paying .. we were in the Lodge at Ashford in June for 4 nights and are still on a high from it!! We had a room called The Dugout in Mount Falcon which was cold not in temperature but lacked personality as did many of the rooms in the house except for the Kitchen Restaurant which is lovely. I wish we could have eaten here all the time. Breakfast was served here and was outstanding. There was a strong smell of soot upstairs when you went from the new to the old part of the house which was a bit disconcerting.Unfortunately we felt that they catered more for the Lodge houses and ran a Butlins style marquee with €20 Meals... consisting of barbecue and desert...which is good value but disappointing in the setting of Mount Falcon Estate. You go up and collect your dinner yourself so not really what we were looking for to celebrate our 38 years of marriage. I can't fault the staff and there was a very pleasant manager over seeing the marquee who was friendly and helpful. The grounds are superb and we enjoyed walks and had an amazing day in the sunshine up at Downpatrick Head so I won't say we didn't enjoy our stay. We always make the best of our break aways but value for money we certainly didn't get. Even the pool and Spa were not open.I feel that the lack of service in the house should have been reflected in the room price. If you pay for a touch of luxury I think you should get a touch of luxury. We won't be returning.
