Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I'm truly sorry that your server seemed unenthusiastic. I have spoken with him about it and he genuinely did not mean to give that impression. And to apologize in advance, I am sorry that I tend to be long winded--and I do not want to either seem defensive or (worse) be offensive, but I did want to respond to and clarify a few points for anyone reading your review. First, we have never offered a Test Kitchen menu at the Kitchen Table. I believe you're thinking of our sister restaurant, Relish, where our seasonal Test Kitchen menu has been a staple for the past 15 years and is still available there and going strong. According to your server, you were looking for our former sandwich menu which we moved away from in early 2025 because most people seemed to prefer the Relish sandwich menu and we found we were basically competing with ourselves (and losing) with that one. I also respectfully disagree with describing our food as Tex-Mex. Our menu was intentionally developed around fresh, Latin/Mexican flavors (fresh ingredients, authentic sauces, and layering of flavors) while leaning into Southern Comfort influences rather than the classic Tex-Mex style (heavy on the ground beef, cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, and sour cream). We put a great deal of care into creating something unique and have had a lot of positive feedback on it. So, while it might not be your preferred menu, I don’t want other readers to think we are just another El Dorado or Taco Bell. And finally regarding the game fee, I know this is one aspect that often trips up guests as it is not a familiar experience for many of us. Truthfully the typical board game cafe business model includes charging at least $5 per person whether guests play games or not--so our $10 per TABLE fee is actually a choice to be slightly more affordable than most. And while some cafes do not allow outside games at all, we chose to allow guests to bring their own games as a courtesy because we know we can't stock every game someone might want to play. The fee, however, is for using our space, not for borrowing one of our games, so it applies whether you're playing one of ours or one you brought with you. It also isn't based on how busy we happen to be at that moment. Just as a movie ticket or bowling lane costs the same whether it's full or nearly empty, our pricing has to support the business every day so we can continue providing a welcoming place to gather and play.Again, I am truly sorry that our service, menu, and fees policy were not to your liking! I understand that not every business model is the right fit for every guest, but I do sincerely appreciate you giving us a try.
