We've been here several times over the years and the food is always great. Unfortunately, they allow students to hang out (working on their laptops) and take up all the seating of paying guests. Sure, some were eating (or had eaten) or drinking coffee, but at some point they need to make room for other guests who are just there to eat. We saw several that had nothing the hour we were there. One guy got there when we did, took up an entire table, and only drank water while working on his laptop. Also, our food took 35 minutes to come out. After 30 minutes, I went and checked on it and then suddenly it was ready. The employees are friendly, and it's a neat place, but parking can be difficult. I'm sure creating a welcoming space for everyone, including students, is hard to balance with people who just want to come and eat and leave. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what the solution is - I'm sure if they shut off wi-fi their business would suffer. Just not a good place for us anymore. Too bad. Went once before and had the same experience as the first time - bad service, good food. I thought the first time when it took way too long that might have been an aberration, but it wasn’t. Like last time it was busy but not THAT busy. We had no trouble finding seating for 5 either inside or out (maybe 70% full). We had 2 coffees that we didn’t get until 25 mins after we ordered them. After another 15 mins, AND seeing two tables get their food who ordered after us (they were also wondering what was taking so long) I went inside to check on our order. I asked the young woman who brought our coffee - very flat response that it wasn’t ready. that was it. No I’m sorry. No, it should be out in X minutes. Hence I asked, well do you know about when it will be ready because it has been almost 45 mins and I’m seeing others who were in line behind me get their food. The woman at the Bakery Order pick up line near the kitchen interjected and I thought, oh good, she’s going to step in and help and address this unacceptable wait. She asked what I wanted. I repeated how we were waiting about 45 mins and … she immediately interrupted in a frustrated tone that they were busy and what did I want them to do. I said I’d like my food and/or to confirm my order was in and there wasn’t some other problem because others were getting their food. She then challenged me that others got their food before us who were behind me in line. She actually asked what table number they were!!! Lol! I said, I don’t know but I’m telling you the truth and she then questioned skeptically my time estimate and asked for my table number. I told her and as she was looking it up on their system (as if to verify I wasn’t full of it) I told her I could prove it and began to pull out my receipt. sure enough it had been 42 mins. Whatever, I just wanted my food or some apology or some recognition that my question was valid. I got nothing of the sort. Instead, she raised her voice and her frustration was clear. No apology. No checking with the kitchen. No offer to do anything for me or comp anything. No, she said we are very busy. She literally said, “we crack every egg” in the most condescending manner possible as if I had never been to such a bakery/cafe as this lol!! I knew she was out of her league and not going to be professional so I just said, obviously over 40 mins for this means your system is broken. She raised her voice more and said well what do you want, we are very busy and this is the busiest time of the day, etc. Realizing that lack of professionalism I was dealing with and hearing her get louder and louder I just walked away. I was at least 50 feet from her in a “busy” restaurant and I could hear her clear as day begin to complain to another customer that I thought I was in some fast food cheap place, again as if this place were above me, and how insulting that was to her - this wasn’t fast food. I never said it was but I’ve been to many 5 stars and a few Michelin restaurants and not waited this long. This is a corner cafe!! And yes, they have good food that they put care into BUT this was eggs and toast at the end of the day. Finally, the manager heard her going off and approached me and I told her the situation. She then grabbed my ticket, slid it ahead of two or three others and I had my food within 3 mins after that. No explanation of what happened tho from the manager either. No apology. No offer to make it up to me, comp is anything. But all I wanted was an apology and some acknowledgement that 45 mins was too long to make us wait and I would’ve been fine.

I’ve been in countless fancy coffee shops, bakeries, cafes of this quality and better that were even busier and never waited near this long. Bottom line, their system is broken. They need more people period. And if I’m guessing right, a few more food prep folks, and another barista or two (never thought the workers were dogging it) because 45 minutes for Avocado toast and eggs is way too long. 25 mins for two coffees is also ridiculous. Lastly, if the place is SOOO highbrow, where is the professionalism?? Despite having to visit the area and the good food, I doubt highly I’ll ever go back. Their system is awful. if I were the owner I’d be p-ssed because they HAVE to be losing business and missing turnover with the long waits. BTW, the customer the one last complained to about me told me that long waits are a persistent problem there. If you don’t a lot of time to waste, steer clear of this place!!
