So a friend and I decide on a Movie at Monte Casino, unbeknownst to us half the surrounding neighbourhoods decide on the same.
Saturday 16'45 Monte Casino is ..... one word "crazy!"
I hate crazy.... with a passion.
Monday to Friday it's traffic congestion on every major national route in Gauteng and I'm sure every other province. Then people decide, on a Sunday to stand in traffic just to watch a movie, stand in traffic for drinks and pop corn....
So it's traffic, traffic then traffic and on your weekends.... more traffic, traffic is not my lifestyle!
I'm a free spirit....Don't like boundaries.
So I grab my friends hand and tell her... "I am not sacrificing my free weekend time to get back into this traffic routine!"
I cut through the casino and end up on the opposite side of Monte Casino...open space, fresh air and no traffic!
By chance we end up at The Met Grill...but we still deciding where to dine. It's the open space, wonderful weather that attracts us to The Met Grill.
At this point with all the stresses of the cinema traffic and chaos in Monte Casino, maybe to just to sit, relax and have a beer would help...
And so early dinner begins...
Sigh of relief, just to sit:
Watching folks just walk up and down...sip on my beer...kids running through the fountains, beautiful.... that's so tranquil. Kids on skate boards.... rollerblades, this is relaxation... This is what I wanted!!!
Another beer, oh wow 20/20 on that gigantic screen and it's S.A. vs India, how cool is this?
Pure relaxation, kids around laughing, running through the water fountains... friendly people chatting on other tables. Big screen cricket....This is the life!
We order garlic snails.... pretty much a standard snail dish and you know what to expect and The Met Grill does not stuff this up....
The salads looks so amazing and fresh, normally if a few tables have the same dish...that particular dish is a seller....but no salad for me, I wanted meat at The Met Grill.
Well T20 half time and time for us to order:
The prices are pretty standard, oh don't just believe me...as per usual my proof is attached.
R350'00 gets you the Met Monster which comprises of 600g Rump and 600g Ribs plus and a beer.....well I don't know about you but I've been to lots of steak houses and that seems very fair.
Let's break it down.... beer is R30 average so it's R320 for both meat dishes, call it R160 per dish... aaaaaaah that seems very reasonable. It's Monte Casino, the proof is in my pictures.
Big screen T20 India vs S.A.? Lets continue, shall we...
Try order this at a Spur!!! Oh there is a Spur at the movies which has complimentary crazy traffic, people shouting....chaos! And a bonus...indoors madness.
I opted for the Fillet steak, 300g at R180 ok maybe R15 more expensive then Spur, psssssst check where I am sitting... in peace ;-)
Yikes I choose the spicy option...it was very good, but nope, not for me. The Fillet was amazing full of taste and wow soft and I kept on thinking this is quality, this is incredible.
The baked potato....well it's what you make of it. Personally I have a routine with a baked potato while it's hot:
1. Press the bottom and all the potato pops up
2. Use your fork and make holes "everywhere"
3. Add salt to your taste
4. Add your butter so it melts into the hot potato perfectly
5. Eat your steak...
The baked potato is to be eaten after you've had your steak, after the butter has melted on the baked potato. The baked potato has now absorbed all the butter and salt....it should be perfect by now!
My friend went for the Rump, both of us medium done and we both finished it all.
So my conclusion:
Perfect setting, relaxed and outdoors...
Waiters were always there... guess waiters like me, I'm human, they human.... we chat, we get along.
Food was excellent, the bill lol excessive... why?
I guess all the beers I drank!!!
Was it value for money...he'll yes!
For everyone else that had an issue....Spur is for you "people with a taste ..... for life" dine in chaos.
Monte Casino, where at the right venue... life Is Beautiful.
