I think the Oak room have a lot to think about. The meal was by no means bad. But not up to the standard of their reputation. Their prices are premium for the area. So service and quality should reflect. The restaurant is very well presented and at first staff are very helpful and attentive. We found as the night went on, the service became sparse and inconsistent. The quality of the food was excellent, however the dishes were often conflicting. They also ran out of mussels by 7pm which seems strange. This may be person preference but, as a group, we found the portions were way too large and often the flavours were at odds. A good example being the spicy lentil burger. It was essentially a reduced lentil Daal compressed into a patty and put in an American style burger including pickles, a tomato and lettuce. The Indian flavour of the patty was at odds with the American flavours of the bun filling. In several of our meals, there was simply too much salt on the chips to taste anything. The starters and desserts were the best parts of the meal. But again, portions wer nearly twice the size of what I was capable of eating. The portion sizes in general were massive. My whole family are average sized and rarely struggle to finish a meal were beaten by the main course. We found that the eggs and rice were over cooked. And in general the flavours were conflicting and not massively enjoyable. The general consensus from our table is that portion sizes could have been halved. Flavours could have been improved and prices maintained whilst still providing value for money. We’ll definitely visit again in case it was a fluke. But first impressions have been somewhat disappointing. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner

I am sorry to read you felt service became sparse as the night went on; I will make sure to address this with our food and beverage manager. Regarding mussels and all food, we are reliant upon our suppliers and due to ongoing covid issues with deliveries and produce, this has an impact on our supply. The lentil burger seems a personal preference as this is what is described on the menu and there isn't a more suitable bun than what we offer. You can always order a starter for your main course if you find the main course portions too large. We are unfortunately unable to maintain old pricing as due to Rishi Sunak's recent comments, prices across the board have increased and it is unrealistic to think that as a business we can absorb the increased costs to us. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. The Angel HotelMore
