My cousin and I visited for her birthday. We walked in one day to get out of the heat. Very, very nice staff. A special thanks to Melvin for helping make it a wonderful vacation, a great birthday trip, and great espresso martinis!

The Pelican Lounge is the newly-renovated passion project of proprietor, Michael King, whom many may know as one of the city's most attentive bartenders at the legendary Uptown dive, Le Bon Temps Roule. As a frequent patron of LBTR, I have spent countless nights sitting at the helm of the main bar while Mike served me drink after drink. Often times, even when there was a large crowd, Mike saw me walk through the front door, and, before I had even made my way to the bar, he had already poured me a glass of my favorite single malt. This was the type of personalized service that kept me coming back (and eventually labeled me a 'regular').Needless to say, when Mike told me that he was opening his own bar, I had to check it out. After I looked at the google images of the Pelican Lounge's predecessor, Lee's Lounge, I knew that Mike had his work cut out for him. Lee's was a dilapidated red brick building in need of a serious face lift. And that's exactly what Mike gave it.It was evident that Mike exerted the same level of hard work and attentiveness to completely reinvigorating the building that formerly housed Lee's that he gives to his patrons while tending the bar. The building is nearly unrecognizable from before. The inside area skillfully blends elements of swank and dive, exuded by its centerpiece - a beautifully crafted marble countertop bar. There is a deceptively spacious outdoor patio area, which I believe has the city's only outdoor pool table (soon to be covered by an awning). Mike also mentioned that he is in the process of adding a kitchen to the bar, so patrons will be able to order a variety of food options in the near future. In a city full of bars and restaurants, it is incredibly difficult for a new establishment to stand out. The difference, in my opinion, comes down to the people who operate it and the service that they offer. That is exactly why I am confident that the Pelican Lounge has potential to be great. I will be back, and I hope that many others will join me there for a round or two soon.
