Went to the Post Inn in Ivanhoe on a Friday afternoon after work with the innocent intention of having one drink. That was my first mistake. There is clearly some kind of dark magic operating inside this pub because having one drink here is simply not possible. Weird. The staff are dangerously good. Not just the standard, “How’s your day going?” while already looking at the next customer. They actually talk to you. Proper questions. A couple of them could honestly become hostage negotiators. They make people feel heard, valued and weirdly safe. Maybe reconsider your careers. Actually, don’t. Then you wouldn’t be working at the Post Inn, and society would be worse off. At one point, my friends and I were asked if we wanted a photo taken for the pub’s Instagram. Uh, yes. Absolutely. Not only am I now part of the Post Inn cinematic universe, but I also get something to post later. That little moment probably sums the place up. It has all the makings of a proper community pub. The kind of place that remembers people, gets everyone involved and somehow makes you feel like a regular even when you’ve only just arrived. And in an age where every second small business owner is telling you how tough things are, these guys are making it look suspiciously easy. I didn’t order food, which was poor planning on my behalf, but goodness gracious, there were some neat little numbers coming out of that kitchen. Every plate that walked past made me regret my decisions. So obviously, I’ll have to return for research purposes. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
