I wasn't expecting much from this area of Cincinnati as I mistakenly tried to go on Red's opening day....well after the parade and festivities were over. In Findlay market, most everything was closed! Luckily not so with "The Rhined"! Though this place has sandwiches and wine, we didn't partake. I would have to say that everything sounded absolutely delicious! Our visit was for the cheese! I wish I had gotten the name of the woman who helped us because she was an excellent cheese monger! We were only in the area of Cincinnati for 2 days - Thursday and Friday. We had such a great experience here on Thursday that we stopped again on Friday before leaving Cincinnati. I'm going to call our cheesemonger Mary because it's easier. Lol Mary knew her cheese! She knew where each cheese we asked about came from, what it was made from, the flavor profile, the best use for it... everything! For each cheese that we sampled, she set the name card up above the counter for us so we knew exactly what we had tried. Mary didn't bat an eye at giving us small cuts of several different cheeses, as we wanted a variety but didn't want to travel with pounds of cheese. She was outgoing and pleasant and just a great person to talk to. We even talked about the cheesemonger at Carfagnas here in Columbus, who I'm eager to get to meet. The cheese? Out of this world! "Prairie Breeze" was my daughter's favorite. I'm not sure I had a favorite though I loved "Red Witch", "Shakerag" and "Street Ched". I can seriously see myself wanting to go back to Cincinnati just to go back to "The Rhined"!

Buying cheese here is such a treat!! There are some consistent favorites, but always something new to try. From individual cheeses to their beautifully crafted boards, The Rhined sells and shares an amazing lot of cheeses and other provisions (pickled veggies! spreads! wine! chocolates!). Working with their staff to pick out your new favorites is also a lot of fun, they are so welcoming and knowledgeable.
