Neither authentic nor good. This place is mainly vibes based on the cool aesthetic. The best way I could explain the food is that it feels like the person who created the recipes got them off of allrecipes.com and never tried the authentic thing, so the flavors and eating experience are a bit off. I know this place isn’t supposed to be authentic, but it’s also not even better than panda express. Food we got: Salt and pepper stacked tofu - this was supposed to be based off of Taiwanese street food snacks. The fried tofu is *supposed* to be directly fried or with an EXTREMELY light starch dredge, then seasoned heavily for flavor. What we got instead was a thickly breaded fried tofu with barely a hint of salt or pepper. Since there was such a thick barrier between the spices and the tofu, the tofu itself ended up bland and flavorless. Garlic green beans - this is usually my favorite dish at Chinese restaurants. The fried string bean texture as pretty good but the flavor was just off. Maybe not enough garlic? Idk it was giving me slightly burnt soy sauce. Wontons “soup” - to be clear, the “soup” in this dish just tasted like the plain water they boiled the wontons in. Two sad little strips of egg and that was all that was in the plain “broth.” The wontons themselves were too big; they really should be easily eaten in one bite. The wrapper was too big and too thick to be an actual wonton (I suspect they used the same ones as for the crab rangoons), which meant the texture of the wrapper was kind of soggy and didn’t hold up/just fell open upon being picked up. And the meatball itself was flavorful, but overmixed and thus too hard to be a good wonton. It was the texture of a fishball. Crab Rangoon - decent, typical American-style item but too much filling that made it difficult to enjoy/eat as everything kept spilling out. Can find better out there, but the price is not bad. Egg rolls - I had the chicken, and these were my favorite item. Probably the only thing I would be willing to pay for again with my own money. Chow fun with chicken - flavor was okay but not outstanding nor recommendable. The supposed house made rice noodles had an extremely soggy and floppy texture that was not very pleasant. Also a nitpick - the sign with Chinese words says “Rice Box Takeout” but has a weird translation for “rice box.” The word for “box” that is used is not the word for takeout boxes. More like… large packing boxes. lol. Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Price per person: $10–20

Hi Anna. Sorry to see we didn't hit the mark for you. While the a word isn't something we asipre to (too many geographies, time periods, and family recipes to compete with) we always appreciate an experiential review and we'll pass along your feedback to our team,

First time ordering takeout from the Rice Box. AMAZING food! So unique and simply delicious. I was surprised...I expected the typical fried rice you might expect from a hole in the wall "Chinese" restaurant. It was late and I was desperate and would have been happy with anything. What I got was ridiculously delicious. I ordered the Chinese Sausage Fried Rice. It was life changing! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Order type: Takeaway Price per person: $10–20
