So, my friend and I had been at the hospital at Saint Mary's all night and into the next morning. Upon releasing him they gave him some prescriptions to pick up. He had them sent to CVS on California st. When we got there we realized the pharmacy wasnt open for a few more hours. We figured we could kill some time in the area. Behind the 76 station in that shopping center is a small drive thru coffee window. Now, without aging myself too much I remember when these little drive thru windows began. Their popularity rose to mythical proportions in such a short time. There was not a shopping mall without one or 2 or sometimes 3 of these places! Overnight they were everywhere! This place is reminiscent of that dream we all share of just grabbing a quick delicious super triple vanilla breve matcha latte before work. The way these ladies handled the steady line of cars was nothing short of spectacular. The formidible line of cars looked like it would be at a dead standstill, there was no way that small unassuming building could handle this many patrons! I was so very wrong. The cars moved at such a steady pace and the smiles, winks, espressos, and cappicinnos that left those windows was extraordinary. Everyone was so friendly to each other I was sure many of the customers were regulars. I noticed there was a place on the front of the building that you could walk up to, even had a table or 2 to sit at. In between the smell of baking blacktop and idling engines I could smell the flowers that were overflowing from their pots that were hung all around the building. I saw a familiar sticker that said, "friends don't let friends go to Starbucks". This sticker had popped up in the early 90s around the same time that these drivethrus were enjoying their hay day. The 2 Xtra large iced deliciousness were served accurately and quickly and with a genuine smile. They tasted perfect. These people have gotten everything down right. I turned around as I left, the line of cars never slowed, the coffees never stopped and consumerism never looked or tasted so good as it did that early morning. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
