The Ruby Slipper on Magazine street was very close to our hotel so we walked over after we added our party to the waitlist.
The wait time was long, about 45 min which we expected after we saw the large crowd waiting to dine.
Upon entering we noticed that it seemed fairly clean except when we sat down, our table smelled like old dirty water was used to clean it. Also the menus were not clean.
Our waitress didn't have an open face but we assumed she was busy and distracted. We ordered our drinks and then our meals at the same time.
My best friend did not like her drink when she tasted it and we kindly informed the waitress. She took the drink away. Our food arrived and it was pretty good but I would not recommend the shrimp and grits. The grits are hard and not creamy but the sauce has flavor.
Portions are large and can be shared if you choose to.
When we received the bill, the drink that was removed from the table was still on the bill. I pointed this out the waitress and she said the manager informed her that the $10 for the drink will not be removed just for the sake of "she didn't like it".
I was shocked considering that out of the entire bill, a simple $10 drink would not be removed.
The waitress became even more colder when I asked to speak to the manager. She stomped off and when she arrived back with the manager. He didn't greet us. He stood there emotionless as we asked that the dollar amount be removed or at the very least give us the drink in a to go cup because we should not have to pay for something we did not drink.
He said we can make the drink to go and walked away.
So we received the bill and I don't remember seeing on the menu that gratuity was included but it seems to have been included. We paid and left.
