Matt. Matty. Matthew. His first day and my first time here today, and in all my years of going out,and trust me there's been plenty, I've never been served by someone with such presence and grace. His smile lights up the room, and his cocktails were superb. Hospitality takes two to tango, and Matt was the perfect dancing partner. I'll be back for one reason, and one reason only: Matthew. Price per person: $160–180 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Went with a large group for after work drinks and nibbles and sadly this was a classic case of “the aesthetic worked harder than the kitchen”. The venue absolutely looks the part: dim lighting, cool crowd, minimalist menu full of fermented buzzwords and expensive confidence. Unfortunately the first attempt at food arrived looking like someone had panic-bought snacks from a servo and plated them with tweezers. Twelve dollars for a bowl of crisps with a few reluctant wisps of prosciutto scattered over the top was genuinely one of the more ambitious pricing decisions I’ve seen this year. Not gourmet. Not elevated. Just… crisps. After that first plate, most of the group quietly abandoned the idea of ordering more food altogether, while I sat there internally mourning the foodie experience I thought we were about to have. The menu is tiny, which would be fine if every dish was exceptional, but instead it felt more style-over-substance small bar cosplay. The cocktails followed the same pattern: beautifully written descriptions promising complexity and flair, then arriving tasting oddly muted and forgettable. Like someone described a great cocktail to the bartender over the phone. Nothing was actively terrible, which almost makes it more frustrating. It just never justified the hype, the pricing, or the attitude. One of those venues where you spend your time wishing the food tasted as good as the menu sounds.— feeling disappointed at The Standard Perth.
