UPDATE: We visited again on Bank Holiday Monday and had a most pleasant visit. We even got to sit in the beautiful courtyard. We had the grandkids and their Mum with us this time. The food was excellent. We ordered two soups which were piping hot and served with some very good brown bread. Two delicious wraps and one sandwich which was exactly as ordered. We had tea and coffees, all were very good. We were served by a very pleasant gentleman, who made us very welcome. The atmosphere was entirely different from last time and it was a pleasure to be there. Amazing what just one person can do to a place. All the damage of our first visit was undone this time. I have no doubt we will be back. The Wild Rose Cafe is well worth a visit. We had a very odd experience here when we stopped for lunch. We were delighted to see a lovely courtyard out the back and, having cocooned from 10th March, we asked for a table out there. We were told the area had not been sanitised. We were disappointed but chose a fairly isolated table near the door to the courtyard so there was a good airflow around us. Another person, cyclist, came in shortly after us and requested an outside table and was given a similar response, with the addition that with only two staff, they didn't have time to sanitise the courtyard. We found this bizarre given that there were only about 6 tables full. It was a gorgeous day and NEPHET recommend eating outdoors where possible. Surely the time spent sanitising a table indoors is the same as is spent doing one outdoors!I had a very nice curried parsnip and apple soup while my other half ordered the sandwich of the day. There was a mix up and the wrong sandwich was served. As it was equally good, once we clarified that nobody else was missing out it was accepted. We had a tea and coffee both before and after. To compensate for the mistake, the charge for one of the coffees was deducted from the bill.It is a nice little spot for light lunch. We both thought the young lady supervising could have been nicer to her colleague on the floor.
