They lied and said kids are free and will be granted free drinks. Our large group paid $120 to use their “facilities” which was also supposed to include two kayaks for our group. They said the beach was 7 minutes away but they took us on back roads so we couldn’t see the much more beautiful, public (free) beaches nearby and it took nearly 15 minutes to get there. This company was partnered with Costa Maya Taxi, who initially told us about the amenities included. There were endless peddlers and kids selling things to our group. When we arrived, the beach was clean, but small. Immediately we were asked to start buying drinks but our group was mainly kids and we didn’t want to drink alcohol. We purchased smoothies for the kids, which were *surprise* NOT FREE! And for two smoothies and a sprite, I was charged $40! He repeatedly tried to get us to pay $200 for snorkeling, which I’m thankful we refused. Then after about an hour and a half, he said we were not consuming enough to be there and he tried to charge us $5 per beach chair if we didn’t start buying alcohol. Mind you, the $120 was to sit in their chairs and be there with free food and drinks for kids! Hmph Also, we were told the kayaks were at another restaurant and were coming???? They never came. So we decided to go ahead and head back to the port at which time the waiter presented an even higher bill for the kids’ drinks and an additional charge of $120. He argued that we didn’t pay him but paid the wrong people to use their place, which were the taxi people!!!!! We refused and he threatened to call the cops, which we replied with, “fine” and then he backed off. We paid for the drinks (the initial price he said) and then left. It was insane and a complete waste. Thankfully little kids enjoy themselves no matter what I highly suggest you stay very far away from Tipsy Turtle and Costa Maya Taxi. They are scammers and they try their best to get every cent you have. On the way back, it took less time to get back and we saw bigger, prettier beaches which appeared to be public. *insert eye roll* I’m grateful we traveled in large numbers so as not to be intimidated, but it was a bummer to be taken advantage of and swindled. Go to the Krazy Lobster instead. Tipsy Turtle gouges tourists. Same product 2 minutes away for a 1/3 of the price and there way fewer peddlers at the Krazy Lobster. Meal type: Other Price per person: $200–300 Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2
