SOUP Ebi imo (shrimp-shaped taro), deep-fried with rice cracker batter, Kintoki carrot, Japanese parsley, Japanese mustard in white miso soup. KIRIBAKO NISHIKI STUFFED YUZU Yuzu (citrus fruit) filled with grilled scallops, wasabi greens, Japanese yam, egg yolk paste, topped with dashi jelly and flower spike. TERRINE Loaf-shaped dish of duck and scallion, cauli-flower sauce, fig vinegar and pink pepper. SASHIMI Seasonal fishes served with traditional garnishes EGG CUSTARD Savory egg custard with burdock, pureed turnip, lily bulb, wasabi oil. GRILLED DISH Grilled wagyu rump meat chocolate sauce served with salad, homemade yuzu dressing, coconut flakes WARM DISH Simmered Shogoin radish, yuzu miso, shrimp, red mustard greens. This will be one of those places that's on every list before long. Beautifully prepared seasonal oversized bento boxes full of fresh ingredients from the market. Lovely staff and a meditative atmosphere. And at under £25 per head an absolute bargain. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

What a treasure! Tobeian is a sophisticated, calm oasis in the craziness of Nishiki Market. It is perfect for couples and solo travelers. The menu is set, and they explain every exquisite bite. I had the 7 course dinner with a 3 sake tasting. The service was perfect as well. While they are not fluent English speakers, one of the servers could describe the courses. Thank you for a wonderful experience and memory on my visit to Kyoto. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ¥9,000–10,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
