I've been going to Tom's Ice Cream Bowl for 30 years, and their ice cream recipe tastes about the same, fresh and delicious. Their nuts are also outstanding. However, the quality of their food and service may have gone downhill slightly in recent years. Admittedly I haven't been here for about a decade or more though, so I was eager to give it a try once more. Food: 3.75/5 On my latest visit, I ordered the peach "small kids sundae [sic]". Unfortunately, it wasn't really a sundae because it didn't come with any toppings. Those are extra, which my server failed to make clear to me. So I was served just a sad bowl of plain Jane ice cream. It was decently good, and peach is one of my favorite flavors. Despite tasting like I remember it, the ice cream had ice crystals, which I didn't remember being the case at Tom's in the past. (3.5/5) I ordered some redskins and cashews on the side to make up for the lack of toppings, and their cashews are the best. (4/5) Value: 4/5 Moderately priced. Fairly good value, actually. Service: 2/5 The male employees still all wear their vintage tuxedo uniforms, even though a few of them were sloppily dressed. I didn't really appreciate the atmosphere that the staff brought to my countertop seating experience, since they were too preoccupied with bantering with themselves that it felt a tad immature, and I had to struggle to get their attention for things several times. It felt less like a diner experience and more like a high school locker hallway. I miss the older more professional staff of the past. My main server also seemed lacking in confidence, and she failed to explain the menu to me adequately. Wait: 4/5 Fairly short wait. Atmosphere: 3/5 I like that they kept their old fashioned aesthetic in their decor and uniforms. But the overall feel the staff brought to the place didn't make me feel comfortable, as I mention above. Total score: 3.4/5 I will be back to Tom's as it is a nostalgic staple of Zanesville. However, I'd recommend coming with company and sitting at one of the tables away from the counter staff, and being aware of how their menu is structured.

A Zanesville staple for several decades! It’s not fancy, but it’s clean, cheap, and good. They now serve breakfast, which I’ve never tried. I usually do a simple warm sandwich like a hot honey ham, fried baloney, or some other protein. The chocolates to-go and the ice creams are the stars here and why you’re coming in. :) The portions are huge, flavors are good, and they have tons of toppings like peanut butter, marshmallow, etc. It’s worth coming back for your fav flavors but also to try the seasonal ones.

Cashews are good, like the ice cream cakes used to get it for half what it is now, also why did you stop selling sunflower nuts.
