Was there when it opens for the day! Very tasty tonkatsu, very tender and not greasy at all. Probably the best tonkatsu I ever had! Owner is very friendly and is very precise with how he handles the cooking process. It’s an art looking at him preparing it. Preparation took time but it’s really worth it. Strongly recommend to try! We had a great meal at Tonpei Tonkatsu! We ordered the fillet tonkatsu with rice, seaweed soup, pork miso soup, and the fried ginger pork — everything was very good. The tonkatsu was especially impressive — tender on the inside with a light, crisp batter that wasn’t overly heavy. The ginger pork was also packed with flavour and cooked just right. Definitely a spot worth visiting if you’re craving tonkatsu and hearty Japanese comfort food. We went slightly before lunch time and managed to snag a seat for 4.
