Overall, the views are amazing but you may find better value elsewhere. As per the other reviews, the views are unbeatable and we took full advantage of them every night we were there to watch the sunset. Kevin makes a mean maracuya dacquiri which is a must-try. The pool is refreshing and a fairly rare bonus on the island. The yoga shala is beautiful. I participated in 3 yoga classes and the quality of instructors varied a lot. Mostly "hatha flow" classes. The location is great if you have transport as a lot of fantastic restaurants are located right in Balgue. I wouldn't recommend staying at Totoco if you don't have wheels as the hike up to the resort is long and steep. The road is not half as bad as other reviews made it out to be - we found it standard for Nica. This is an eco-resort, and there are insects - a lot of insects: we found a large centipede, a scorpion, grasshoppers, a lot of flying bugs, frogs and worms in our bathroom. Surprisingly, the mosquitos weren't a problem (we visited in April). The rooms are not sealed, so insects also made their way into our bedroom. If I had recommendations for management, they would be as follows: 1. the place has an air of having seen better days and more maintenance and care than it currently enjoys. The rooms are weather-worn and walls are heavily stained. I would recommend painting the walls regularly. 2. more and better quality towels. We were given paltry, thin body towels - no face or hand towels. We had to ask for pool towels. 3. replace the mosquito nets - ours had large holes in it and looked worn out. This would be a small expense that would give travellers a better sense of "security" at night. 4. add the Nica breakfast in the options for the included breakfast for guests. (Currently, this option is only available if you're willing to pay $10.) We're in Nicaragua and want to eat Nica food - don't make guests eat what they usually eat at home ("continental" breakfast as the free option) to the exclusion of your typical food (which is amazing!). 5. clean the pool more regularly. The wind is high and all sorts of debris ended up in the water by 4PM, which was the busiest time of day for guests. We spent a lot of time picking out foliage and insects. I would also limit outside guests: the pool is small and became very crowded when a group of 4 outside children stopped by and started splashing around. The pool needs a complete repair as there are collapsing walls. 6. the ads for the rooms promotes "coffee on your private deck". First, coffee is only available after 7AM from the kitchen when the sun is already out, there is no coffee making equipment in the room, and any cup you want to consume beyond your first cup in the morning costs 120 cordobas ($4US). As the most expensive stay on the island, the resort should set up a coffee station as early as 6AM to allow guests to enjoy a hot beverage with the sunrise as advertised. 7. a 10% "voluntary" tip is added to the total bill, including your room stay. That's an additional $15-25 a night based on your consumption. We were tipping as we went, so this seemed excessive and it would have been nice to know in advance so save us the hassle of keeping small bills for daily tips. I think it's great that all staff can share equally in this benefit, but seemed a little steep when it included a tip on accommodation costs as well. I think it's a great place to come visit for a sundowner but I wouldn't choose to stay there again in its current condition. Service: 4

We got robbed $1,000 from the cleaning staff in our own cabins. As if the location wasn’t horrific enough dealing with so many bugs in our room and dealing with unprofessional staff.

They charge you 10$ entrance to the restaurant. We didn't want to use their pool, we just wanted to eat there. Never experienced this before. 3700 cordoba plus the actual food is ridiculous, honestly. Safe your petrol and don't drive up there, even though the view is good...
