Beautiful venue with underwhelming food and service. Classic case of style over substance! I took my partner to TreeTops Restaurant for his birthday along with two of our friends. This place came recommended by friends that ate here many years before. I was excited about the private dining pod since we booked our experience during the fall and we anticipated nice weather and beautiful foliage. The venue itself did not disappoint. The whole place gives off a secret garden vibe as if you stumbled upon a private venue tucked away in the forest. Love the use of rich woods and earth materials seen throughout the spaces. The private dining pods were lovely. I particularly enjoyed being supplied blankets and personalized touches like including a welcome card and printing the name of our group on some of the materials. Lovely job TreeTops! As for the food and service, that is an entirely different storysadly. Our entire group noticed the kitchen in advance of our orders, so there was plenty of time to plan and execute a well thought out menu. The quality of the food simply does not justify the $150 per person charge. The amuse bouche that we asked to be dairy free was mostly fresh fruit that was cut up (a single strawberry and fig). The balsamic pearls had zero taste and the crab served in the lettuce cup was just so-so. Nothing special about the initial course. The appetizer was equally as underwhelming, some diced pickled veg and olives to put on toasted bread. The knife cuts on the veg were not even - I mean if you’re going to serve a simple dish then it needs to be done to perfection. The salad followed the same theme of being basic. I couldn’t eat the cheese it came with but the vinaigrette didn’t save this course for me. There was nothing special or interesting about this salad. Usually if you’re paying more money for a meal you expect there to be technique, some solid or even unique flavors, and use of some higher quality ingredients. These courses displayed none of the above much to my dismay. The apple cider shot was served hot as a palate cleanser. Cute idea but flawed in execution. I felt the apple cider left a sickeningly sweet taste on my palate instead of cleansing it for the main course. I ordered my filet without dairy so the kitchen swapped the mashed potatoes for rice. Small note hereit is so easy to make potatoes puree vegan I don’t understand lowering the perceived value of the dish by swapping rice in. I ordered the filet to be cooked medium rare. I was served more well done. My friend and I who got the same dish swapped. The filet was good, but again nothing special. No red wine reduction or other fancy sauce to pair. The broccolini was overcooked and the rice was congealed and encased hard pieces as if it had been sitting in a heated container for a very long time. The dairy free chocolate cake was super dense but good. The coffee served with it was like warm but I enjoyed the china that was used along with the Chemex set for the pour over. Sadly the pour over method was done improperly by our server. I nearly forgot to mention the cocktail I got at the bar area before dinner service. It tasted as if it came from a container of concentrate and the alcohol tasted very cheap. My friend who is diabetic asked about the mixes they used and the bar server confirmed it comes from a box of concentrate. If you want to charge $150 per person the word “concentrate” should not be in your vocabulary. The service was overall clumsy. Our server was super nice but there were a number of utensils dropped, plates and cups clanking, mixing up some of our entrees, etc. Definitely not terrible servicejust clumsy. Personally, I would not go back as I do not feel the meal was memorable nor would I recommend anyone to spend $150 per person to try this experience for themselves. I hope this restaurant can fix the lack of quality coming from the kitchen. If so, they may have something very special in the future. Until then, I wish this place a lot of luck because I think they’re going to need it.
