We had an exceptional dining experience at Tsumugi. The 7-course dinner was outstanding from start to finish, with each course thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. As it was a Tuesday evening during the off-season, we happened to be the only guests. What could have felt quiet instead became a wonderful private dining experience, with incredibly attentive service throughout. Tetsu and Yuki were warm, welcoming, and genuinely delightful hosts, and the meal was paced perfectly. The portions were also just right—satisfying without leaving us overly full, which is rare for many multi-course menus. One of the highlights was when they came up with a fun and interactive way to involve us in the matcha tea-making process, which made the experience feel even more special and personal. To top it all off, despite speaking limited English, they took the time to write us a thank-you card in English at the end of the meal. It was a thoughtful gesture that perfectly reflected their kindness and hospitality. We left feeling truly grateful for the experience and can only say the same to them—thank you for a wonderful evening. We would definitely return if we visit Nagano again and would highly recommend Tsumugi to anyone looking for a special dining experience. Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

One of the best restaurants I've dined in Japan over here last 15 years. The owners make you feel at home and aee very helpful and attending. Thry provide a nice glimpse into Japanese culture while service the most expertly cooked bites from local products. 6 stars would nit be enough! Awesome Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We had one of the best meals in our trip here. Whilst not every dish was to our liking they all shared some contemporary and traditional ways of eating with soba as the main star. They took their greatest care with us in explaining and communicating each dish. At the end we were the only patrons left so they gave us an impromptu lesson on matcha. It was truly a memory for our trip. My in laws loved the experience and it was their favourite meal. This was my 5th time to Japan and I can safely say this was in my top 5 most memorable dining experiences. The chef was very careful with the dishes and even did the steak well done on late notice for my partners mum. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

jason zabaklyさま First of all, thank you truly for your heartfelt and wonderful message. It means so much to us. We are deeply honored that you chose to visit our restaurant for such a special occasion—celebrating a birthday, your engagement anniversary, and your parents’ wedding anniversary. It was our greatest joy to share such an important moment with you. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to you, your wonderful partner, and your partner’s parents. Your family is so kind, warm, and full of love, and thanks to you all, that day became a truly unforgettable and precious one for all of us as well. We are very happy that you carefully enjoyed each course of our soba kaiseki, which combines traditional Japanese cuisine with contemporary elements. It also brought us great joy that all of you took part in the tea experience with such openness and curiosity. The matcha you prepared was truly beautiful. Although we are not very fluent in English, we were deeply touched by how kindly and patiently you listened to our explanations. Your understanding and warmth meant a lot to us. Your words—that this was your favorite meal of the trip and one of your top five most memorable dining experiences in Japan—truly touched our hearts. We feel incredibly honored and grateful. In fact, it is we who received such heartfelt hospitality from all of you. We were also very moved by your thoughtful concern for your partner’s mother and the way you gently spoke to us about the steak. Your kindness and attention to every detail were truly beautiful, and we sincerely appreciate it. In the Japanese tea ceremony, there is a philosophy called “Wa-Kei-Sei-Jaku,” which represents harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. We feel that we were able to share exactly that kind of beautiful moment together with all of you. You have given us so much joy and happiness—we cannot thank you enough. We sincerely wish for your continued health and many happy smiles in your lives. Please give our warm regards to everyone. We truly hope to welcome you again someday in Japan, and here in Nagano. May your days be filled with lasting happiness and many blessings. With heartfelt gratitude, Tetsu and Yuki, TSUMUGI
