Ugolyok is a fine dining spot in Moscow that offers rough food for gentle people. The establishment's theme is based on a mine, with low lighting and staff uniforms that match the decor. The place has a cozy atmosphere with big and small wooden tables to accommodate different groups of people, knitted blankets, and smiling staff. The menu offers many options to eat and drink, including vegetarian options. The mixed veg and baked potato dish is a must-try, although not enough for a main meal. The berry lemonade cocktail is an interesting option, but some choices are very unusual. The service is very friendly, and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant is popular among expats, making it a great place to meet new people. Ugolyok also features outdoor seating during the spring and summer months. Free parking is available for visitors.

Michelin Guide rating

Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking.

In this large space with industrial style decor (pipes on the ceiling, a concrete floor and brick walls), pleasant, boldly flavoured cuisine with both Russian and Mediterranean influences is served, including meat and fish cooked over charcoal (ugolëk means “the little piece of coal”)...

Dining here was nothing short of extraordinary. The evening began with a mushroom soup that immediately set the bar high. It was rich yet delicate, with a depth of flavor that spoke to the quality of the ingredients and the skill of the kitchen. The texture was velvety, the seasoning perfectly balanced, and each spoonful carried that comforting earthiness that makes mushroom soup such a timeless classic. It felt both rustic and refined the kind of dish that warms you from the inside out while still impressing with elegance. Then came the star of the night: the salmon with green and black rice. To say this was the best salmon I’ve had in Moscow during this trip would be an understatement. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection tender, moist, and bursting with natural flavor, enhanced but never overshadowed by the chef’s touch. The pairing with the green and black rice was inspired: the nutty, slightly chewy black rice contrasted beautifully with the lighter, fresher notes of the green rice, creating a harmony of textures and flavors that elevated the dish beyond expectation. It was a plate that showed creativity, precision, and respect for the ingredients all at once. What makes this place truly special, though, is not just the food but the atmosphere. There’s a sense of discovery here, as if you’ve stumbled upon a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Moscow. The service was attentive without being intrusive, the ambiance inviting yet sophisticated, and the overall experience left me feeling both satisfied and grateful to have found it. This restaurant deserves recognition for delivering such a memorable dining experience. It’s the kind of place you want to recommend to friends, revisit on future trips, and keep in your personal list of treasures. If you’re in Moscow and searching for food that combines authenticity with artistry, look no further this is where you’ll find it.
