I had an early omakase dinner at Umeko on a Friday during the New Year holidays - I was fortunate that the restaurant was open. The waitress who took my order was exceedingly kind - she asked how much time I had in order to determine the pace of the meal, and also asked if I had any dietary restrictions. She also indicated the price range of the meal between ¥1,500 and ¥2,000. The omakase was one of the best meals I had in Japan - apart from the fresh sashimi, the two dishes that were incredibly well done were the chawanmushi (one of the silkiest I’ve had) and the fried tofu. Dipped in some salt, the fried tofu crunchy exterior was perfect alongside the Japanese pumpkin tempura. The salmon was also sweet and fresh. The omakase came up to ¥1,650. The same waitress also gave me a car ride to the Murakami train station so that I could catch my train in time. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ¥1,000–2,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
