Very disappointing experience here. Micro aggression and potential racial discrimination experienced… My boyfriend and I dined here and, unfortunately, the service made us feel noticeably unwelcome from beginning to end. Throughout our meal, the female server repeatedly checked on the tables around us — asking how their food was and whether they needed anything — while consistently skipping our table. This didn’t happen just once; it happened multiple times during our meal. We were never asked how our food was or if everything was okay. At one point, I was concerned about how rare the elk sliders were and wanted to ask whether they were normally served that way. Since our server had not been checking on us, I tried to make eye contact with her. She avoided engaging with me, and I eventually had to ask another male server to help. The experience at checkout was equally uncomfortable. We left a 5% tip because of the service we received (the machine’s lowest suggested option was 18%). The server brought over the payment machine without saying anything, did not ask how our experience had been, and after seeing the tip simply said “cheers” and walked away. What made this particularly upsetting was the clear difference between how we were treated and how the surrounding tables were treated. As an Asian couple, being repeatedly passed over while watching the same server actively check on other guests left us feeling singled out and uncomfortable. Whether intentional or not, the experience came across as a microaggression. It’s 2026 in Toronto. No customer should leave a restaurant wondering whether they received worse service because of their race or ethnicity. The food itself was not the reason for this review. I was celebrating my birthday on May 17 2026. My boyfriend reserved a table specifically for my special occasion. We got there and the owner?server? Let his friends in first who were waiting behind us and then told us we don't have any tables and sat us at the bar. We then asked the woman server if we could sit at a table and she said if we wait a couple more minutes she will clear a table for us. Once a few minutes passed, the lady waiter told the server who let his friends first and he made a weird face as if we were demanding something unreasonable. A few more minutes passed, and the lady waiter seemed busy and we didn't want to interrupt her service flow so we notified the waiter and i very politely said “Hi sorry but is our table ready?”. And this man didn't even look me in the eyes and said “We are full right now. Cheers” and left the bar like that without another word. The service felt disrespectful, condescending and demeaning. The lady waiter came back (she was amazing) and said our table was ready. So it's notable that the other waiter didn't even check his tables or system and just didn't want to sit us. After our seating situation, we ordered the sliders and it came with a side of soap. Super disappointing because we've been to union before and we loved the food. They gave us free sticky ginger cake for the mishap of the soap but the experience with the first waiter really threw us off. And honestly it being my birthday and we booked a week advance and being met with a rude unfriendly attitude just left a sour taste in the mouth. Super disappointing. Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: $100+
