For $5 you can't ask for anything more. Hell, you'd expect much less. Food: 5 Service: 5 Meal type: Other Price per person: $1–10

When I visited Via Gnocchi yesterday, I mentioned that I was a big fan of Drogheria Fine in Montreal, and the person serving me said that the Montreal site had been had been the inspiration for the Toronto site. Having lived in both Montreal and Toronto for many years in each place, I do believe that Toronto is hands down the better city for food - for fusion, for range of diversity, for chefs doing exciting and innovative dishes. The one thing I believed Montreal does nuch better is poutine. It turns out that is also true for $5 gnocchi. Since Drogheria Fine was the inspiration for Via Gnocchi, I think it's fair to compare the two. The Montreal site comes out ahead because: first, and most importantly, the tomato sauce is the soul of the dish, and the Toronto site's suace does not measure up. I have visited the Montreal site at least five times and felt the love in the tomsto sauce on every visit there. To say that the sauce at the Toronto site was unremarkable would benthe kindest way to describe it. And second, maybe a minor point but maybe not, the Montreal's site's price is tax-included and it does not accept cards, making the street-food, cheap-eats experience more legit than the Toronto site's. Bottom line, Via Gnocchi is a knock-off of Drogheria Fine. Cheap in the sense of quality; more expensive when it comes to price point. Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
