First time trying out these guys and apart from the tasty food, I was quite surprised from the warm welcoming as I walked into the restaurant. Although, half of the resturant was full of customers, I was greeted at the door and didnt even have to ask a question, as they catered to me and asked what they can do for me.Honestly, probably one of the few restaurants in seattle I've experienced such a warm welcoming. Food:I've ordered fried rice, fried tilapia, and the pat see ew. They all had a very authentic and delicious flavor I wished I had order more. Tilapia was on the spicier end, but I believe you can request the spice level if need adjusting. The fried rice and pat see ew was finished in one sitting. Place:With a fair amount of parking and convenient location, it's a place I wouldnt mind going often. From the outside, you wouldnt think much but the interior and atmosphere of the restaurant is very opened and family friendly for a nice night out with friends and family. Large seating capacity.Price: mid to high range but very suitable for the amount of food you receive.Definitely will be back for more and recommend this place
After our favorite Laotian restaurant closed, my friend and I were in search of a replacement. I'm sorry to say this wasn't it. We ordered the Nam Kao, Larp and Yum Woon Sen. When we ordered, we had been warned the larp would include pig skin, so we were aware...but we weren't aware just how much or how texturally unappealing it would be. We spent a good chunk of our meal trying to eat around it because we weren't fans. The flavor was good, but the skin seemed excessive. The Nam Kao had good flavor but lacked the crunchiness we're used to that usually comes with it. The surprise winner of the night was the Yum Woon Sen, which was the dish we were initially least excited about when ordering. But the combo of glass noodles with veg and lemon juice was flavorful and had a nice citrusy taste.
Viengthong is a hidden gem! The food is authentic, delicious, and memorable. The Lao sausage is wonderfully spiced, the papaya salad fresh and flavorful, the laab very satisfying and as I remembered it from my SE Asia travels. The staff are warm and friendly. I do not live in Seattle but would make it a point to eat here when I am in town again. The official stamp approval is that my Laotian friend found the food to be outstanding as well. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and may look humble on the outside, but it belies the wonderful people and food that awaits you inside. Eat here! You won’t regret it.
