Stuart Ralston, one of Edinburgh’s most successful restaurateurs, has struck gold again with this take on a Parisian wine bar. The cooking is very much in the bistro mould, fusing French classics with Scottish produce and a few Mediterranean touches. A really excellent place for dinner with well executed dishes done by an great team of chefs. The toasted bread with butter infused with chicken fat was a terrific way to start and the terrine, checked hearts, roulad, burger and monk fish were all delicious. Cosy and friendly with nice drinks selection. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £40–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We visited Vinette for birthday celebrations with friends, party of 8. From arrival to leaving we had excellent service both in Vinette and Vivien (bar). Staff were attentive, friendly, knowledgeable when asked about wine and menu choices. Menu was excellent and catered for everyone, food was delicious Wouldn't hesitate to visit again...loved it Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £90–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Monkfish was very good. Venison tartare was nice, albeit very small in portion. Dessert was mediocre. Music was loud and tables were close to one another, so people started to raise their voice when talking (after a drink or two). The restaurant ambience was neither a noisy pub nor a casual French bistro, and was stuck in between. The restaurant was split into 3 sections based on floor layout and was making it hard to get the attention of the server to send the bill for payment.
