WADACHI in Kokura is a fantastic find! Finding authentic Japanese izakaya food when you are plant-based can be a real headache, but the staff here are incredibly sweet and make you feel right at home. They have a whole separate vegan and halal menu with a wonderful plant-based Tonkotsu ramen and crispy gyoza packed with local Kitakyushu veggies. Plus, it is great that they have even more vegan options thoughtfully scattered throughout the main menu too. You definitely have to pair your food with a perfectly poured, ice-cold Asahi beer. Super friendly service, inclusive food, and great vibes overall! Located in a beautiful terrace overlooking rooftops and the covered shopping street with a elevated train visible in the distance from the entry, this restaurant offers counter and table dining. While they offer a mostly conventional menu, for vegans they have a few excellent entrees including noodles and gyoza. The sumo citrus soda is an excellent non-alcoholic option. Thanks for the food-based care! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ¥3,000–4,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Dietary restrictions: Vegan or halal submenu in English.

First, the chef cum manager doesn't allow me to sit on the normal table even though the entire restaurant was dead empty when I got in and even when i left. Then he forces me a drink which he doesn't disclose in the beginning. Nor is it mentioned on the English menu which he gave me. And to my surprise there comes a plate of julienne vegetables, literally 4 pieces with salt, which I thought was a complimentary. Later I got to know that it's an appetizer. That is also forced. I ordered vegan ramen, the blandest ramen I've ever had in Japan. 2360 yen for a lousy evening. No wonder there was not a soul in the restaurant.
