3.5 out of 5 stars. Here’s why: We made a high top reservation for 6:30 and were seated promptly but the table location was very poor. It was awkwardly in the back where you faced a wall and was right beside the kitchen entrance and bathroom where people were constantly walking past. You could even get whiffs of the bathroom, so we were asked to be moved (they should just get rid of this table honestly). There were no other tables available so we sat at the sushi bar, which was totally fine. Food was served quicker this way. It was busy, but our waiter was working the whole sushi bar and seemed rushed, even spilled some of our sake on me. He also mentioned to us he was trying to make it to his friend’s birthday, so I didn’t appreciate him constantly asking if we wanted to order something else or if we were done and hovering over to make a decision. Even when we paid he said “I don’t usually do this while customers are still eating but can I check yall out.” Not a huge deal, but again, I didn’t like the feeling of being rushed out when the restaurant was still open. We also had to ask him several times for a straw and remind him about our beer after 10+ min of waiting. Perhaps they should have 2 people working the sushi bar to avoid some of these hiccups. The food was overall good. The gyozas were flavorful but would have been better served hot. Edamame was fresh. The sushi was fast and fresh. All 3 rolls we ordered were tasty, my only complaint was size. This a personal preference, but I prefer smaller sushi rolls (think your traditional) that you can easily fit in your mouth in one bite. A couple of the rolls we ordered with very big without being labeled as such. So big that I had to eat it in 3 bites, which for me, feels like it takes away from the flavor experience because you don’t get everything at once. It would have been nice if was indicated on the menu as a larger roll. Also, LOTS of sake to choose from. I’ve never had sake, so loved the sake flight options. You can tell this is a popular place and I can see why, but I would try another sushi place before coming back here based on my experience. I had an incredible experience at Waraji Japanese Restaurant in Raleigh. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. What truly made the visit outstanding, though, was the service from Shaiel. From the moment we sat down, she was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel genuinely cared for. She anticipated our needs without us even having to ask, explained menu items with enthusiasm, and checked in at the perfect times without ever being intrusive. Honestly, it was the best service I have received at any restaurant in a long time. If you’re visiting Waraji, I highly recommend asking for Shaiel—she will make your dining experience unforgettable. Between the amazing food and her outstanding service, this was a 10/10 visit. I’ll definitely be coming back! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
