Firstly, I cannot comment on the room standards as I haven't stayed here as a Hotel guest. I can say that the location next to the River Thames is good. Shepperton Railway Station is just under a mile away, a 20 minute walk. From there you can get a train into Waterloo Station which stops at Kempton Park Racecourse, Hampton Court and Kingston on the way. It is a reasonable cab ride away from Heathrow Airport. Several attractions can be reached by car within an hour. Now for my personal experience. We booked into the Hotel for both Christmas Day snd Boxing Day lunch. The menus and prices looked reasonable and competitive for the season. A week before BD I received a call from the Hotel saying that the BD menu had been withdrawn and they were only offering the usual restaurant menu. If we wanted the BD menu then we had to go on the 27th Dec as a larger party had changed their booking to this day. As one of us had to return to work on this day, this wasn't suitable. The usual restaurant menu offered nothing appealing for the occasion so, we cancelled that booking. Due to the late notice, we could find no alternative that would suit all members of our party. We turned up for our Christmas Day lunch and were met with a well presented table. Our white wine, although in a bucket with ice, was warm. It hadn't been chilled and so we had to request more ice to try and make it drinkable. Our starters arrived and I was surprised at the paltry portions and the basic ingredients and presentation. When our mains were served, I couldn't believe it was a Christmas dinner served in a Hotel. I spent several years working at a local school snd the canteen staff turned out a better meal at Christmas. There were three brussel sprouts on my plate and no sign of the seasonal side vegetables. These turned up when we had almost finished our meals and were cauliflower and broccoli cheese. At this point, unfortunately, my sister in law fell ill and collapsed in the restaurant. The staff throughout were faultless, both with the service provided and the way that they dealt with our incident. My sister in law came round and as the ambulance was going to take three hours to arrive, my husband took her home. I do recognise that this unforseen and unexpected turn of events proved distressing for the other diners present too. My son and I decided to have our desserts while we waited to be picked up. They were advertised as a 'trio of chocolate desserts' and turned out to be a slice of gateaux with a layer of milk, dark and white chocolate in it. My sis in law's 'pineapple parfait' was placed on the table and it consisted of chunks of pineapple in a glass with broken bits of meringue nest in it and a sprinkling of coconut? In conclusion, this is the reason for my scoring. The front of house staff were marvellous. I hold the chef responsible for withdrawing the BD menu at such late notice, for the unimaginative restaurant menu and for the below par Christmas Day meal. The Warren Lodge is a dated, quirky but valued local Hotel which it would be a shame to lose. I would return, if I am invited to a function there, or to sit on their riverside terrace or in their courtyard, for a drink or afternoon tea on a fine day but I won't be dining there again. Staff make you feel welcome but full English breakfast on second morning was very small compared to first breakfast plus on booking we told them we had a 5 week old baby but got put upstairs in furthest room so carrying a pram up and down slippery iced outside stairs was definitely no fun and did make me wonder on how much Warren lodge hotel actually thought about their customers needs or safety. The room was very basic with lights that didn't work and we're dangerously loose on the wall plus a hair dryer was kindly supplied but power socket was nowhere near the mirror so total waste of time, also carpets we're ready for a really good clean or replacing, also the toilet roll holder was that far away that you had to get off seat to reach it but must say that beds are really good and had a really good sleep apart from doors slamming and making our own door rattle cause not fitted right but main problem was parking spaces which were very hard to come by
