While not the healthiest food around, this place has a reputation and history that's worth checking out on its own. This fairly large sandwich and onion rings was about $13, older crowd comes through and the decor is phenomenal, really support their style. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $10–20

First morning in Raleigh and we find this gem of a local restaurant for breakfast. From the parking lot on it obvious that this place is basically a secret kept ny locals. Its a true diner not a plastic "hey remember diners!?" Its family owned since way back and the building itself was a speakeasy in the 20s and eaely 30s until prohibition was overturned. Which amused me as 3 Capitol Police officers were having their breakfast a table away. The owners niece waited on us with big genuine smile and her mother rang us out at the register. If i like ed in Raleigh this would be a part of my work day routine. Food was great , plenty and filling and prices were very inexpensive. Just a fantastic diner. Watkins grill is a family owned and operated blast from the past. The food is cooked fresh every day. It's homestyle and plentiful . Daily specials and veggies are on the whiteboard. 3 generations of ladies operate, cook, and serve customers in a dining room filled with old pictures, news articles and old signs. It's homey and welcoming. If you miss old style country diners then this is the place. They close after lunch so go early. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch
