You will be offered delicious wine, martinis or whiskey. French coffee is great, try it.

Invite your girlfriend to this spot with a wonderful atmosphere. The patient staff reflects the style and character of this restaurant. Fabulous service is something that people highlight in their comments. Prices are found affordable here. As many reviewers state, the decor is divine. But The Wellington Room hasn't earned a high Zomato rating that means that this place has something to improve.

Sorry for posting a photo of Empty plates. However the appetizers were so delicious that we just dug in and I have to give this new South African restaurant a five star review. Service was excellent, friendly and true to form South Africa. We had a wonderful curry and a steak combination sharing two entree for three people and ordered the three appetizers you see photographed. Anyway super wonderful peaceful place with fantastic views and food equal to the service.

We went to The Wellington Room for Valentines Day Dinner, and unfortunately the service was very lacking. I understand that the restaurant was busier than normal, but when we wait for 35 minutes then ask to order, and again wait 15 minutes while tables around us were waited on, the table next to us arrived 30+ minutes after us and ordered 5 minutes before us,it began to feel like we were intentionally being ignored. After asking a third server to take our orders, we were finally able to order the unremarkable-for-its price food. This would have been understandable if we felt that everyone else was experiencing the same thing, but 5 minutes after asking two separate servers to take our order, they were taking order of the table next to us, directly facing us. No apology, no comments about being sorry for the wait, just one statement about being busy. All in all a very poor experience for a 250+ dollar dinner.

We had high hopes but were sadly disappointed. We are frequent and seasoned diners in the Portsmouth NH dining scene. The Wellington Room has a history of being a fine dining establishment and their prices reflect it. The positive includes a cozy dining room overlooking the river. Their menu is somewhat limited and the night we went (a weekend night, first seating) they did not offer any specials. The menu offered 4 appetizers including 2 salads. I was not interested in a salad so ordered the mussels. When placing my order I was informed they were out of mussels so I chose the crab dip. The others in my party ordered the salads and were satisfied with their salads. We all agreed, however, that the crab dip tasted like it was made with onion soup mix and extremely salty. The wontons were good and crispy. Moving on to dinner, two in our party ordered the chicken risotto dish and the other two ordered the crab on haddock. General comments included pasty saltly risotto and extremely salty chicken. The haddock was unremarkable, very salty, the breadcrumbs tasted like they came from a box and neither party finished their entrée. We thought we could salvage the meal via dessert. When placing our order, we were told that they were out of 2 of the 4 listed desserts. We decided to cut our losses. Overall, we found the service brusque as though they wanted to turn our table. After the fact, I heard that ownership has recently changed at this restaurant. Portsmouth offers many better choices at this price point and location.
