For $500, absolutely not worth it. Buy the dinner ride for under $100. We bought the overnight train which consisted of dinner, cash bar until 2am and your own private room with bathroom and bed. The train basically takes you up the HWY 2.5 miles where you board, stops for 30 mins while you eat, then turns back. If you like billboards, youll be up close and personal to tje billboards from Trego north. Overall, the train was nice and the room was fine for a train. The dinner was not good, the chicken Kiev was straight out of the frozen bag and the beef tenderloin was gritty and chewy, topped with canned mushrooms. We never learned the history of the train and felt like we were confined to wherever the bartender was because only one lady was working. The service was great considering she was the only one serving drinks and the meal. The tour consisted of going up to the Santa train, mined you there were 8 couples there and the Santa train was for kids and no Santa was on. Maybe the wine and cheese ride would be fun, but just spend the money and go on the train along the Northshore. Visited on: Weekday Wait time: No wait Reservation recommended: No

We had a wonderful experience twice this year on the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad. The 1st was our overnight stay in July to celebrate our anniversary. The diner was delightful and yummy! The cocktails very tasty. The sleeping quarters very comfortable and small, due to keeping the appearance of a 1940s train. The breakfast the next morning was delicious. Our 2nd visit, for dinner, was a prize we won from Our Wisconsin magazine, and we had a wonderful meal and cocktails. Not wanting to drive 2 hours home after the train ride we stayed in Spooner, Wi overnight. The train is a wonderful way to celebrate your event. The staff was very helpful and the gift shop has lots of train items. Be warned it is not handicapped accessable however. We will definitely 'ride the train' again!
