We found this restaurant online and decided to make a reservation in the lounge for dinner and some later drinks. Beforehand we asked if tonight there was a show in the indoor lounge which they confirmed, so we went ahead with the reservation. No extra information was given. On arrival, the place was very well decorated and clean; food was good but over priced; however, we thought that it would be worth the trial ad the place was nice and the afterwards show. To have some contest, we are from Europe ( my husband is Nigerian born) and it was only me and my husband. We ordered some food and drinks and it was on a Sunday. My husband doesn’t drink alcohol. There were only 3 occupied tables, and at some point we were 2 tables but around 10:30 4 tables more were occupied by groups of 5-6 persons ordering one bottle of alcohol. It was already 11:00pm and as they were closing at 2:00am we thought of leaving as it was quite empty , but we decided to ordered a bottle of wine. At this point there were a maximum of 6 tables drinking and about 15 or more empty tables. The waitress said we could not order a bottle of wine (worth 95k) as the “night club” started and only premium bottles were accepted. We paid our bill and left. At this point we had spent 100k in food and we were going to order another almost 100k bottle of wine; meaning we would have spent almost as much as we would have ordered a “premium bottle from the beginning”. Moreover, nobody informed us about the instructions at the beginning when we were making the reservation, nor on arrival nor when the “club night” started. It’s important to understand that our reservation was based on enjoying the use of the lounge once the “night club” started and we insisted while we talked to the receptionist. We were not notified at any moment about the “requirements” for the use of the lounge. From a perspective of a managerial view considering it was a Sunday, it was already 23:00 and they had about 80% of empty tables ( including the bar), it was a completely wrong strategy both for the same-day sales and prospective sales in the future as this type of service is for a very niche audience. Thus being said, the lounge lost money that night, lost prospect clients that will not come again in the future ( we won’t have a reason to go back) and a bad mouth to mouth recommendation. There are no anger in these words as we went to a more customer-friendly place and had a great night, but i think it is important to give a constructive opinion for the restaurant and for futures customers to be aware of the requirements so they are not confronted with the same situation. Internal rules are important for a company to accomplish their objectives specially when management is not around; however a manager should always know how to mold to changes and create instant strategies.
