Yan Liu is a small ramen shop in Taipei located about a 15 minute walk from Taipei Main Station that punches well above its size in terms of what it delivers. The space is compact and seating is limited, so timing your visit wisely makes a real difference. Weekday lunches tend to move through without much of a wait, while busier periods can mean standing around for a while before getting a table. Ordering is handled through a ticket vending machine at the front, with a Mandarin menu, with no option for English translation when we visited. The process is straightforward once you understand the flow, and the staff are polite and helpful in bridging any language gaps at the counter. The lobster clear soup ramen is the standout order and the reason this place has built the following it has. The broth is clean and delicate on the surface but carries a depth and richness underneath that builds as you work through the bowl. There is a subtle hint of yuzu in the soup that lifts the whole thing without overpowering the seafood base, and the balance across the bowl from the broth to the noodles to the toppings feels carefully considered rather than assembled. The whole wheat noodle option is worth choosing for the added texture it brings to the soup. Free noodle refills are available which is a generous touch, and worth taking advantage of if you want to try both noodle varieties across the same sitting. The char siew and chashu toppings are solid additions to round out the bowl. Cash only, so come prepared. For a ramen shop of this size in Taipei, the quality is genuinely impressive and well worth the visit. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: NT$600–800 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
